This Privacy Policy explains how Björkmark, operating makememybook.com (the "Service", "we", "us"), collects, uses, retains and deletes personal data of Customers and visitors. We aim to be plain-spoken. Full contact detail is at the end.

Short version. We collect only what we need to produce your book: your contact details, the intake questionnaire, and the material you upload. We use it only for that purpose. We delete uploaded material and transcripts (if any) within 30 days of delivery unless you ask us to retain them. We do not sell your data. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies on this website.

1. Who we are (Data Controller)

Björkmark is the data controller responsible for the personal data described here. Contact us at hello@makememybook.com for any privacy question, including access, correction or deletion requests.

2. What we collect

a. Booking and account data

Your name, email address and billing details (collected at purchase).
Payment tokens (handled by our payment processor Stripe — we do not store card numbers).

b. Intake form data

Answers to your intake questionnaire: topic, audience, working title, reference notes on the material you are uploading.

c. Uploaded material

The source material you provide: text documents (up to 10 000 words), audio files (up to 1 hour), or a mix.
If you upload audio, we generate an automated transcript using Otter.ai or an equivalent transcription service so we can work with the content as text.

d. Correspondence

Emails and messages you exchange with us during onboarding, production and review.

3. Why we process it (lawful basis)

All processing is on the lawful basis of performance of the contract between you and us — i.e. producing and delivering the book/audiobook you have ordered.

4. Third-party processors

We use a small number of specialist processors to deliver the Service. Each has been chosen for its data-protection posture:

Stripe — payment processing. Card data is handled by Stripe under its own privacy terms. We store only tokens and transaction identifiers.
Otter.ai (or equivalent) — transcription of any audio material you upload. Transcripts are deleted from the transcription service after use.
Google Workspace / Google Drive — file storage for uploaded material, drafts and audiobook voice-sample sharing.
Audiobook narration provider — the licensed voice used to narrate your audiobook is generated through a professional AI-narration provider. Only the finished manuscript text is processed; no voice data of yours is involved.

5. Retention and deletion

Uploaded material and transcripts (if audio) — deleted within 30 days of book/audiobook delivery unless you request retention in writing.
Delivered files (manuscript, EPUB, cover, audio) — retained for up to 12 months after delivery so we can re-supply them to you if needed.
Booking, invoice and correspondence records — retained for the period required by Swedish tax and accounting law (currently 7 years).
Contact details for support — retained until you ask us to delete them, subject to any legal retention obligations.

6. Cookies and website analytics

This website does not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We do not set any cookies except strictly-necessary session cookies where required (for example on a checkout page).

7. Your rights under GDPR

If you are in the EU, UK or another jurisdiction with equivalent rights, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you;
Have inaccurate data corrected;
Have your data deleted (subject to legal retention obligations);
Restrict or object to processing;
Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format;
Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Sweden that is Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY).

8. International transfers

Some of our processors (Stripe, Google, Otter.ai, our narration provider) may store or process data outside the EU/EEA. Where they do, the transfer is protected by the processor's own compliance mechanisms (Standard Contractual Clauses, adequacy decisions or equivalent). We select processors that maintain such safeguards.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. Access to uploaded material is restricted to team members actively working on your project. Files are stored in access-controlled cloud storage.

10. Children

The Service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date. The version in force at the time of your purchase governs the processing of your data collected during that purchase.
